The modern history of the area dates back to the 1920s. A native from Iowa named David Welch owned most the land from John's Pass to Indian Rocks Beach. In the early 1930s, Charles Redington purchased the northern end of David Welch's property and in 1935 built the first permanent residence in the area. Three cities that Redington owned are Redington Beach, incorporated in 1935, North Redington Beach incorporated in 1953 and Redington Shores that incorporated in 1956.
Aside from the recreational opportunities of the communities’ gorgeous beaches, North Redington Beach maintains two playground areas and two tennis courts and Redington Shores maintains a large county owned park that includes beach access. For residents who are after more activities than what the serene, relaxing beaches and sun provide, all the amenities of the big city are just a few miles away. Tampa Bay and St. Petersburg provide professional football, hockey, baseball and numerous baseball training camps, top-rated museums, orchestra, opera, Broadway shows and an array of entertainment and entertainers from around the world. All of this is accessible within 30 to 45 minutes from the towns. |
